In this blog post we’ll discuss a very common and mostly asked question – the difference between Force.com and Salesforce.com.
Before we begin to explain force.com and salesforce.com I would like to describe to PAAS and SAAS.
PAAS: Platform-as-a-Service and SAAS: Software-as-a-Service
Both terms are self explanatory. PAAS is referred to as a platform on which software services can be built, while SAAS is referred to as Software that can be used as a service. By definition Salesforce.com is a CRM application that is developed based on SAAS while force.com is basically PAAS which provides development services to developers and business users to build powerful applications.
By above we can say that Salesforce.com is built on force.com and that’s the whole concept.
Let’s take a deeper look on Force.com and Salesforce.com
Nonetheless, we have several other cloud items. Force.com is a PaaS item, which represents Platform-as-a-Service. This idea is certifiably not an out of the box item like GoToMeeting, Dropbox rather it contains an application or framework for you to fabricate Apps onto it.
Same as GoToMeeting or Google Apps, Salesforce.com is an out of the box arrangement with their three main products Sales Cloud, Service Cloud and Marketing Cloud. You could go out and purchase the Sales Cloud today and beginning creating leads, opportunities, contacts, running reports and so on
Interestingly, you can go out today and get some Force.com licenses and you would not have an out of the box functionality, leads, opportunities, contacts and reporting will not be available. You would need to assemble Apps, Tabs, Custom Objects, Workflow Rules all yourself to plan the sort of framework that you need to utilize. That’s the time when Salesforce is required with completely developed solution.
force.com creates and provides modified applications in a short period. These applications are consequently associated with the entirety of the Salesforce information and use APIs to interface with outside information. Force.com incorporates security controls to deal with the applications and license clients to erase, alter, see, or make just explicit applications. Salesforce.com is completely activated and includes all the clients’ subtleties so you can close the sales deals without any problem. Similarly the updates can be supplied in a very seamless way.
